Usta art, a traditional craft from Bikaner, Rajasthan, is famous for its intricate gold embossing and painting. Originating in Persia and brought to India by Mughal emperors in the 16th century, the art flourished under Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner, who invited Usta artists to his court. Initially practiced on camel hide, Usta art features detailed floral and geometric patterns using 24-carat gold leaf. Over time, the art was adapted to materials like wood and marble.
Despite its historical significance, Usta art is now endangered due to high costs and dwindling artisan numbers, although efforts to revive it continue.
